I started my career more than 15 years ago on Capitol Hill – first as a domestic policy aide to U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and then as his Press Secretary and as a member of his Senate leadership staff. In my seven years on Senator Durbin’s staff, I gained considerable experience with message-based communication, media strategy, rapid response and coalition building. I also served as Communications Director for my home-state Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) in the key period leading up to her 2006 re-election to the U.S. Senate. In 2007, I left Capitol Hill to return to my roots in the Midwest and I have both agency and independent experience providing media, communications and community organizing counsel to a wide range of clients, most of them not-for-profit. I am also a writer, producer and performer in Chicago’s Live Lit community.
